Privacy & Cookies
What this website knows about you, which is very little.
Last updated 10 October 2026
This notice explains what personal information Chez Bernard collects through this website, what we do with it, who else is involved, and the rights you have over it.
Who we are
Chez Bernard, 38 Shore, Leith, Edinburgh EH6 6QU, is responsible for the personal information collected through this website (the “data controller”). If you have any question about it, email info@chezbernard.co.uk, call 0131 564 0358, or write to us at the address above.
What we collect and why
When you send us a message or a private hire enquiry
We ask for your name and email address, and for private hire your phone number, the date, the number of guests and the occasion, along with anything you choose to write. We use it only to reply to you and, if you go ahead, to arrange your event.
The form emails your enquiry to our inbox. The website itself keeps no copy: there is no database and no archive of what people send. We keep the email for as long as we need it to deal with your enquiry and any event that follows, then delete it.
Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering people who contact us and, where you are planning an event, taking the steps you have asked for before we agree a booking.
When you book a table
Our booking page shows ResDiary’s reservation system. The details you enter there go to ResDiary, who handle them for us so we can manage your booking. See ResDiary’s privacy policy.
When you buy a gift voucher
Gift vouchers are sold through One Tree, whose shop appears on our gift vouchers page. One Tree and their payment provider take your order and payment; we never see your card details. See One Tree’s privacy policy.
When you visit the site
Like any website, our server records each request it receives, including your IP address, your browser and the page you asked for. These logs exist to keep the site running and secure. They are kept briefly and then deleted, are not used to work out who you are, and are not shared. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website.
Who else is involved
- Ginger Creative, Edinburgh, who build and host this website for us.
- IONOS, whose servers in London run the website.
- Google Workspace, which provides our email. Form enquiries are sent through our Google account, so they are held in our Google mailbox.
- ResDiary for table bookings, and One Tree for gift vouchers, as above.
- Google Fonts. The typefaces on this site load from Google’s servers, so your browser shares your IP address with Google when a page opens. No cookies are involved.
We never sell your information or pass it to anyone for marketing.
The website is hosted in the United Kingdom. Some of these providers, Google in particular, may handle information outside the UK; where they do, they rely on the safeguards UK law requires, such as adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
Cookies
This website does not set any cookies of its own, and it uses no analytics, advertising or tracking tools. That is why there is no cookie banner: there is nothing to accept or refuse.
Two services embedded in our pages may set cookies that are strictly necessary for them to work:
- Gift vouchers. One Tree’s shop is protected by Cloudflare, which sets a
cookie called
__cf_bmto tell real visitors from automated traffic. It lasts 30 minutes. - Bookings and checkout. ResDiary and One Tree may set cookies needed to complete a booking or a payment you have started.
Strictly necessary cookies do not need your consent, but you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Booking or buying a voucher may not work if you do.
Links to Instagram and Google Maps are ordinary links. Nothing from those sites loads until you click, after which their own privacy policies apply.
Your rights
You have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to receive it in a portable form. To use any of these rights, email info@chezbernard.co.uk. We will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
